There is still some confusion about the new Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment period times. You can enroll this first year only in the new Affordable Healthcare Marketplace from October 1 to March 31, 2014. If you want to start on January 1, 2014, the first day the new insurance programs will start, you need to be enrolled by December 15th. This enrollment period is only if you buy on the Marketplace and receive tax subsidies/tax credits. If you are outside the financial limits and buy individual insurance, you may buy at any time.Insurance always has a “delayed” start when you enroll. If you enroll the 1st to the 15th of each month, your insurance will start on the 1st day of the next month. If you enroll the 16th to th 31st of a month, you will start on the first day of the 2nd month. Example:
Dec 15th – start January 1st
Dec 16th- start February 1st
This extended enrollment period will only be for this first enrollment period. The next enrollment period and thereafter will be Oct 15th through Dec 7th.
If you drop your Marketplace insurance for any reason throughout the year, you will not be able to re enroll until the next enrollment period. There are qualifying events where you can be added in between such as move to another state, new baby or adoption, etc. but you can not drop and add at your convenience.
Hope this helps. We are currently taking applications so call us for a free quote today.
