Lessons Learned From the Marketplace

It has been an interesting first three months for the new Affordable Healthcare Marketplace. These first several months have been fraught with many technical problems to say the least! It was not for the faint of heart. They are slowly starting to resolve the biggest of the problems but there are still many many smaller issues.

The biggest issue on the marketplace is still the lack of details about the actual plans. You can now get an application started but when you finally get to the end where you get to pick out an actual plan, there is a lot of details not shown for the plans. As a health insurance agent, the most important part to me is selecting the right plan for your individual needs. The average consumer will never pick up the nuances of these plans with the minimal information provided on the screen. Once you pick a plan you are stuck with it for a whole year! You must choose wisely.

There are also quite a few ” minefields” to overcome before you get your correct subsidy. An experienced agent can help walk you through these areas. I have spent hours on the phone with Healthcare.gov unraveling a lot of them already. Again, if you do this on your own, you may very well miss some great deductions.

We are only at halftime in this game. The enrollment period still goes this first year to the end of March. I was so excited to help all the people I have so far. There is still time to enroll. Let us help make it easy.
